SOIL Hotel, Tokyo

A 14-room neighborhood hotel tucked away on a quiet side street, just steps from a bustling main road in central Tokyo. Ahead of the hotel’s opening, Andreas created a series of simple graphic artworks that adorn the entrance, every guest room, and the restaurant area.

These graphic shapes and colors act as a complement to the building’s architecture, the site-specific interior and the lush plants that surround the entire project.

Westergas

Westergas is Amsterdam’s Cultural Park, open day and night to anyone seeking new energy. On the grounds of the former Westergasfabriek, where the gas that once lit the streets of Amsterdam was produced, energy takes on a new meaning today. The Westergas site has a rich history; the exteriors of the 17 industrial buildings have remained largely unchanged since the closure of the Westergasfabriek in 1967. Today, these factory buildings serve as a breeding ground for art and culture. In close collaboration with the Dutch design agency STAAT, Andreas developed an illustrated, colorful campaign that covered all of Amsterdam in the form of billboards, animations and various printed materials.

Flos

An illustrated story by Andreas Samuelsson, created in collaboration with Flos and Apartamento Studios. 265 Small Designed by Paolo Rizzatto. The 265 returns in a more compact version, a companion to the original that maintains its precise proportions in a diminutive form. In 1973, Rizzatto applied an architectural sensibility to lighting. Intuitive, technical and precise, the result is as simple as it gets: a suspended wall lamp composed of a head and a weight, each balanced at the extremities of an adjustable arm and attached to the wall in an asymmetric position.

Shapes, Vases and Houses

“Over time, I have collected forms, studying details and the subtle shifts in lines and proportions. My interest in the unique object is endless, ranging from the everyday to advanced forms that challenge my initial perception. Communicating through form is a vital part of my life; it distills words, feelings, and impressions into a single point, allowing the viewer space for their own interpretation. While I inherently prefer simplicity, a tension arises in the meeting between organic, living forms and those that are stripped down. When placed in a series, the living expression is heightened by the presence of the minimalist.” — Andreas Samuelsson This ongoing artistic project features hand-painted shapes in black gouache on wood pulp board. To date, the series has resulted in a collection of original artworks, three books and exhibitions at Nieves, Zürich, Switzerland.

Emoji Library

Launched to immediate acclaim, the Emoji Library reached the top of Apple’s App Store download charts upon its release. Journalist Lucy Bourton of It’s Nice That described the project as “the emojis you always wanted (and some you didn’t know you needed),” with the platform’s coverage garnering millions of views and ranking among their ten most-read articles. The project proposes a new visual shorthand — a way of looking at communication through a simple, graphic lens paired with a human and humorous tone. Currently containing several hundred icons, the library is designed to expand into a comprehensive visual language, blending classic symbols with abstract imagery that captures complex emotions and thoughts.

Lykke Kaffegårdar

Created in collaboration with the agency Open Studio, these designs were awarded Gold in the "Best Packaging Design" category at The Golden Egg — Sweden’s oldest and most prestigious communications competition. Andreas’s hand-drawn typography and characteristic pop-color palette form the core of Lykke’s visual identity, earning praise from the global design community. Distinct from traditional producers, Lykke Kaffegårdar co-owns its farms alongside the farmers, cultivating coffee organically and rejecting monoculture. By sharing expertise with neighboring growers, they foster the production of high-quality coffee while generating long-term economic sustainability. It is a model designed to be as good for the planet as it is for the people.
